Intercalibration of good ecological potential (GEP) is one of the main tasks in the CIS process for the next years.
As a first key step towards the intercalibration of GEP, the ECOSTAT report on a common understanding of using mitigation measures for reaching GEP for water bodies impacted by water storage has been recently completed (publication upcoming in January 2017). One of the recommendations of the GEP/Water storage core group under ECOSTAT in this report was to carry out an exercise to compare the outcomes of countries’ national methods by applying them to a common set of water bodies, as the next step in GEP intercalibration.
A workshop dedicated to the GEP inter-comparison case studies on water storage (mainly linked to hydropower) will take place on 13-14 February 2017, at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management, in Vienna.
The key aims of this workshop are to:
• Present and discuss the concept of case study comparison regarding water bodies impacted by water storage.
• Present and discuss the first set of pre-mitigated case studies and examples of how national methods for selecting/out-ruling measures and GEP definition can be applied to them.
• Discuss the case study templates prepared for Member States to contribute information to this inter-comparison exercise and agree on the next steps.
